If you are reading this you probably have heard of the sales channel called direct selling, consumer to consumer, direct to consumer, or even MLM. We like to call it direct sales, so we will use that terminology going forward. Over the years of working with Direct Selling and Party Plan companies we have notice a very specific trend that all billion dollar direct sales companies have in common.

Before going into this trend and how it is is important to you, let me tell you a little about OPSY.  OPSY stands for Operations, Process, Strategies and You. OPSY started 3 years ago as an idea (with a much worse name) by two teams. One a team of bothers who have been consulting direct selling companies for over a 25 years and the other a team of tech developers who always put user experience first and never wavered from that ethos. Back then there was a chance meeting (on John Wayne’s yacht of all places) that brought our teams together.  The tech team was tasked to implement a Helpdesk solution for a fashion apparel company that at the time had 500 million in annual revenue. Now they are reporting revenues in the billions per year. You may have hear of them their name starts with Lula and ends with Roe. At the same time the two brothers were working for the same company and were tasked with managing and improve the rep/customer service division. So naturally we all had to work together. Once we all realized we had great chemistry the potential to build something amazing was at our finger tips. Yet we didn’t know exactly that. We first decided on finding tech that was already built and offering our services to help improve and distribute the apps. So we scoured the universe of apps designed for direct sales and what we found was that most if not all were inefficient when it came to the needs of the reps and many were built so long ago they reminded us of Windows 98. This was just not acceptable so we rolled up our sleeves and began the long journey of building apps that work for YOU and not the other way around.

This takes us back to that very important trend that we saw when working with billion dollar companies. When I reveal this trend know that these companies aren’t all ran by your Elon Musk type business geniuses. Many times they are hard working individuals that built their business on keeping their reps happy and giving them the tools they need. All these companies had no idea that they would get to a billion dollars in annual revenue, but one was predicted. One of the brother consultants from years of experience had developed a revenue projection model that predicted the revenue growth of this fashion company almost to the T. It was incredible to watch the monthly growth alongside his prediction.

It was easy to see the direct selling consultant had something and after learning that he had been there from the beginning of that journey and help the owners achieve dreams beyond their imagination. From there we started to study these billion dollar companies and that is when the trend appeared.

What we found is that at $100 million annual revenue there is an exponential growth curve to a billion. In other words a company that would take 5 years to hit 100 million in annual revenue would just 1-2 years to hit a billion.
